This session explores how participatory approaches can transform evaluation planning and implementation\, making them more inclusive\, meaningful\, and actionable. We’ll discuss strategies for co-designing evaluation frameworks\, using decolonized data collection tools\, and embedding community-driven insights into the Results-Based Accountability (RBA) framework.\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout the presenter: Dawn Valentine \n\n\n\nDawn is a social entrepreneur and founder of Valentine Consulting. She believes in the power of advocacy and thinks reliable data combined with a fantastic story is the best way to capture people’s attention. In her journey as a consultant\, she has worked alongside governments\, nonprofits\, coalitions\, and academic institutions conducting primary research as well as consultation for monitoring and evaluations for programs that shift paradigms to reduce human suffering. \n\n\n\nMs. Valentine studied Healthcare Administration at Washington Adventist University\, Public Administration and Public Policy at Walden University\, and Public Health with an emphasis in epidemiology at George Washington University. \n\n\n\nShe has more than a decade of experience in community-based public health and social science research and more than five years of experience in program evaluation and continuous quality improvement. Join your colleagues to learn more about how the Equitable Evaluation Initiative is seeding and growing a field of EEF practitioners to shift the paradigm. \nMarcia Coné\, Director of Practice Engagement and Evolution at the EEF\, leads the Equipping for Transformation cadré of support to Practice Partners. Her focus is on building a field of evaluation\, learning\, and research practitioners who advance the Equitable Evaluation Framework by expanding definitions of rigor\, validity\, and embracing 21st century complexity. \nIn the summer of 2020 Marcia launched the Equipping for Transformation Practice Partner Platform\, a robust ecosystem of organizations and individuals in multiple spaces and modalities design to help partners interrogate and evolve their evaluation practices\, promote shared inquiry and learning\, reflect and innovate\, catalyze cross-sector thought leadership\, and contribute to field-building. \nFor nearly three decades\, Marcia has worked in partnership with NGOs\, Philanthropy\, PSOs\, and Grassroots and Grasstops leaders to shift the paradigm and create cultures where intersectional equity is at the center. She brings a depth and breadth of experience that fuels her passion for moving the philanthropic sector away from a traditional framework towards bold philanthropy that is a catalyst for change. \nFollowing the keynote address\, the Seattle Evaluation Association will review the last year at the association and discuss plans for the year to come.  \nThis event is open to both members and non-members. We call for a catalytic\, decolonizing\, transformative love. We break open what we mean by self love; love for\, with\, and of others; love that is a community practice; and power fused with love. We discuss why it matters; where “we” are in the journey from the current state of this practice to where we want to (and need to) go; and how we believe we will get there. Finally\, we discuss how we “measure” transformative love\, or rather\, how we can know it when we see it and how we can document its power for change.” \nShiree Teng has worked in the social sector for 30+ years as a social and racial justice champion—as a front line organizer\, advocate\, network facilitator\, capacity builder\, grantmaker\, and evaluator and learning partner. Shiree brings to the work a lifelong commitment to social change and a belief in the potential of groups of people coming together to create powerful solutions to entrenched social issues.

DESCRIPTION:Our theme for 2021 is “AEA at 35: Meeting the Moment”.  It is a time for celebration and also a time for reflection on our practice of evaluation. It is a time for us to share our stories about what we have learned over the past 35 years. \n“Meeting the Moment” begs the questions: What is our history? What is today’s context? and How will we move forward? It invites an examination of the trajectory of what was\, what is\, and what will be. \n“AEA at 35: Meeting the Moment\,” suggests that this is a time for us to look into the mirror and reflect on ourselves as individual professionals and as a field of evaluation.   This is our opportunity to recognize the realities of today’s uncertain times\, to share what we have learned\, to talk about opportunities and missed opportunities and to examine how we are transforming evaluation practice to meet the complex challenges of the moment.  Some of those challenges regard diversity and inclusion; social justice; equity; global systems change; multicultural\, local\, national and international connections and partnerships and globalization\, etcetera. \nEvaluation is not one story with one evaluation narrator. It’s a collection of stories from different voices and different times and different places and different people who have very different evaluation experiences and something unique to share. For AEA\, 2021 is not only a time for us to celebrate our 35th anniversary\, but also a time for us to share what we have learned\, what we are doing now that shapes our evaluation life\, and what we are doing and planning to better our society and our planet. \nAs you prepare to submit proposals for AEA’s 2021 conference\, please consider how our  practice of evaluation has been shaped by the past and how we are adapting to meet today’s challenges. \nPROPOSALS DUE MAY 10
